Loyalty & Vet Care
A pet you look after grows attached to you, and a loyal pet learns tricks. A pet left with empty needs for too long can fall ill, and then it needs a First Aid Kit.
Loyalty
Every pet has a loyalty level from 0 to 100. The pet screen shows it as five hearts under the portrait, one for every 20 points. Hover the hearts to see the exact number.
A new pet starts at 0. A baby born to your pets starts at 20, enough for its first trick.
Raising loyalty
- Keep its needs up. While hunger, thirst, hygiene and mood are all at half or more, energy isn't low and it isn't ill, loyalty grows a little every second. You have to be online and in the same dimension.
- Care for it by hand. Petting, hand-feeding, brushing, playing (Pet Ball, Ball of Yarn, Feather Wand) and tricks all give a small boost. Only one of these counts every 40 seconds or so, so doing the same thing over and over doesn't rush it.
With good care a pet reaches about 50 in two Minecraft days and 100 in about a week. The higher it gets, the slower it grows: the last hearts take the longest.
Neglect costs loyalty. While any of its hunger, thirst, hygiene or energy is at zero, a pet slowly loses loyalty.
Tricks
Dogs, cats, ocelots, foxes and parrots learn tricks as their loyalty grows. Other animals don't do tricks.
| Trick | Loyalty | Who learns it |
|---|---|---|
| Spin | 25 | Dogs, cats, ocelots, foxes, parrots |
| Shake Paw | 40 | Dogs, foxes |
| Roll Over | 60 | Dogs, cats, ocelots, foxes |
| Beg | 80 | Dogs |
The Trick button
Open the pet screen with the Pet Whistle and press Trick, next to Done. The pet turns to face you and does a trick it knows. Press it again for the next one; it goes through all its tricks in turn. Its tooltip lists the tricks it knows and the loyalty that unlocks the next one.
With All pets picked, every pet nearby does a trick it knows. A finished trick cheers the pet up (
Mood) and earns a little loyalty.
A pet that's asleep, ill or too tired tells you so instead. Pets on a lead or being ridden don't do tricks.
Illness
A pet left with an empty need (hunger, thirst, hygiene or energy at zero) for about 10 minutes in total may fall ill. Time with good care slowly makes up for it, so a short slip is fine.
You get a message when it happens, and the pet screen shows Ill in red next to the hearts. An ill pet:
- moves slowly and sneezes now and then;
- keeps losing
Mood; - won't play with toys, play with littermates or do tricks;
- doesn't gain loyalty from good care.
It never dies of it. It stays ill until you treat it.
First Aid Kit
Use it on your pet. An ill pet is cured, heals 4 hearts and cheers up. A pet that's only hurt is healed by 4 hearts. A pet that's fit and healthy doesn't use up the kit.
Don't want illness at all? Set "illness": false in the settings.
