Recipe
Adopting an animal
- Find an animal that isn't anyone's pet yet.
- Hold the collar and use it on the animal.
- Hearts pop up and you get a message such as “Biscuit is now your pet!”. The collar is used up.
An animal you can tame in vanilla (wolf, cat, parrot, horse, donkey, mule, llama, camel, nautilus...) is tamed by the collar too. You don't need a collar for those if you tame them the vanilla way: they become your pet automatically.
A new wolf, cat, parrot or nautilus starts on Follow. Every other new pet starts on Idle, and the spot where you adopted it becomes its home.
With your first pet you also get a free Pet Care Guide.
Setting a pet free
- Sneak and use a collar on your own pet. You're asked to confirm.
- Do it again within 5 seconds. The pet is set free and you get the collar back.
A pet tamed the vanilla way is untamed too. /vanillapets release does the same (see Commands).
Other clicks
- On your own pet without sneaking: “already your pet”. Nothing is used.
- On someone else's pet: “belongs to someone else”. Nothing is used.
Tips
- Craft a few: every adoption uses one, and one craft makes two.
- Collar a wild hoglin carefully: it's hostile until it's yours. Once it's your pet it never attacks you.
- A baby born to your pets is your pet already. No collar needed.
