Cat
Cats behave like real cats: a litter box, a scratching post, napping up high, kneading before bed, and a strong dislike of baths.
- House pet
- Bowls
- Pet Bed / Cat Tree
- Litter Box
- Feather Wand
- Hates baths
| Becomes a pet | Tame it with raw cod or salmon (vanilla). It becomes your pet automatically and starts on Follow. |
|---|---|
| Needs | |
| Eats | Only from a Food Bowl or your hand. |
| Drinks | Only from a Water Bowl or a water bottle from you. Never from ponds. |
| Favourite kibble | Fish Kibble |
| Hand-feed with | Raw cod or salmon, or any kibble |
| Toilet | A Litter Box only. No box (or a full one) means an accident. |
| Sleeps | In a Pet Bed or on top of a Cat Tree. Kneads first, then lies on its side. |
| Plays | Pounces at the Feather Wand, chases the Ball of Yarn, fetches the Pet Ball about half the time. |
| Can sit | Yes, vanilla sitting. Making it sit also sets it to Stay. |
| Petting | Sneak + use with an empty hand. It purrs and kneads. |
| Tricks | Spin (loyalty 25) and Roll Over (60). See Tricks. |
Eating & drinking
Bowls or your hand only. A cat crouches over the bowl, tilting its head to chew on one side and then the other, or laps at the water with its tail lying low.
Any kibble or a hay bale fills a Food Bowl (4 servings); any other food adds one serving. A water bucket fills a Water Bowl, a water bottle adds two servings.
Litter box
When its bladder passes 80% a cat goes to the nearest usable Litter Box within 16 blocks. It hops over the rim, squats in the middle, and then scratches litter over it with its front paws before hopping out.
Each use adds waste. When the box is full (3 uses) or out of litter, the cat goes on the floor instead. Clean it with a shovel (you get a Bag of Pet Waste, which works like bone meal) and refill it with Cat Litter or sand.

Cat tree
A cat uses a Cat Tree within 16 blocks all on its own:
- Scratching: it stands up on its hind legs against the sisal post and rakes its claws down it.
- Lounging: it leaps onto the top perch and stretches out for a while.
- Napping: when it's tired and has no Rest Spot, about half the time it picks the top of the tree over its bed.
Only one cat uses a tree at a time. A following cat heads for the tree more often once you settle down nearby.

Sleeping
A tired cat goes to its Rest Spot, the top of a cat tree, or the nearest Pet Bed. It kneads the bed first ("making biscuits"), purring, then lies down on its side. Asleep, the tip of its tail twitches now and then.
Play and habits
- Feather Wand: wave it and every cat within 8 blocks crouches, wiggles its rear and pounces.
- Ball of Yarn: cats get first dibs on yarn and chase it around.
- Pet Ball: about half the time a cat fetches it, otherwise it just bats it about.
- Washing: now and then it sits up, licks a paw and wipes its face, which keeps it a little cleaner.
- Kittens stalk and pounce on each other and chase their own tails.
Water
Cats hate getting wet. Being in rain or water slowly sours their mood, a rinse with a water bucket makes a cat hiss and costs a lot of mood, and even soap annoys it a little. Use the Pet Brush instead, and only wash a cat when it's really dirty.
Tips
- Put the litter box somewhere the cat can always reach, and empty it regularly: a full box means a mess on the floor.
- A cat tree next to where you work keeps a following cat busy and happy.
- Fish Kibble is its favourite: from a bowl or your hand it makes it extra happy.
