Eating & drinking
Bowls or your hand only. It pecks at its food.
Any kibble or a hay bale fills a Food Bowl (4 servings); any other food adds one serving. A water bucket fills a Water Bowl, a water bottle adds two servings.
The bird perch
At night (or whenever it's tired) a parrot flies to the nearest Bird Perch within 16 blocks, flutters up onto the branch and tucks its head in. During the day an Idle parrot also likes to sit on its perch for a while now and then, looking around and preening under a wing.

On your shoulder
A parrot that's following you lands on your shoulder, just like in vanilla. Riding along it rests (
Energy and
Mood go up) and gets hungry and thirsty only slowly. When it does need food or water it squawks and you get a message: let it down (sneak, the vanilla way) so it can go to its bowls.
Parrots copy the calls of mobs around them. A shoulder parrot uses that to warn you: when a monster comes within 6 blocks, or starts hunting you from up to 16 blocks away, it calls out in that monster's voice and tells you which one.
Tips
- Put the perch near the bowls, so a perched parrot is never far from food.
- Seed Mix is its favourite kibble.
- Parrots don't use pet beds; without a perch they sleep where they are.
