Dog (Wolf)
A tamed wolf is the most complete pet in the mod: it eats from bowls, sleeps in a bed, needs to go out, fetches, and goes for walks on a lead.
- House pet
- Bowls
- Pet Bed
- Pee Pad / outside
- Fetch
- Walks
| Becomes a pet | Tame it with bones (vanilla). It becomes your pet automatically and starts on Follow. |
|---|---|
| Needs | |
| Eats | Only from a Food Bowl or your hand. |
| Drinks | Only from a Water Bowl or a water bottle from you. Never from ponds. |
| Favourite kibble | Meaty Kibble |
| Hand-feed with | Meat (its vanilla food) or any kibble |
| Toilet | A Pee Pad, otherwise outside on grass, dirt, moss, mud or sand under open sky. Shut in, it waits by a door. |
| Sleeps | In a Pet Bed (or its Rest Spot). Turns round on the spot, then lies down with its chin on its paws. |
| Plays | Fetches the Pet Ball (with a play bow first), chases the Ball of Yarn. |
| Can sit | Yes, vanilla sitting. Making it sit also sets it to Stay. |
| Petting | Sneak + use with an empty hand. It wags its tail. |
| Tricks | Spin (loyalty 25), Shake Paw (40), Roll Over (60) and Beg (80). Dogs learn every trick. See Tricks. |
Eating & drinking
A dog only eats and drinks from bowls (or your hand), never from a pond or grass. It walks right up so its head is over the bowl, then eats with its head down, chewing, or laps at the water.
Any kibble or a hay bale fills a Food Bowl (4 servings); any other food adds one serving. A water bucket fills a Water Bowl, a water bottle adds two servings.

Toilet
When its bladder passes 80% a dog looks, in this order, for:
- a Pee Pad within 16 blocks (a pad soaks up 3 uses, then replace it);
- a patch of grass, dirt, moss, mud or sand under open sky within 10 blocks. Afterwards it scratches the ground with its hind legs, and about half the time it leaves a mess to scoop up;
- the nearest door: it sits facing it, whines, and you get a message that it wants to go out. Open the door and it heads straight out.
If none of that works it has an accident on the floor. Dogs never use litter boxes.

Walks
Put it on a lead and go outside. It wags its tail as it walks and its mood goes up. On grass, dirt or sand it stops now and then to do its business, which empties its bladder, and then scratches the ground.

Sleeping
A tired dog goes to its Rest Spot, or else the nearest Pet Bed within 16 blocks. It turns round once on the spot, lets out a sigh as it flops down, and sleeps with its chin on its front paws. Now and then its paws twitch and its tail flicks, as if it's dreaming.
A dog that's following you naps where it stands, unless there's a pet bed within 8 blocks of it and you're close by; then it curls up in that. If you walk off it gets up and follows (unless it's exhausted).

Play and habits
- Fetch: throw a Pet Ball. Dogs get first dibs: it drops into a play bow, races after the ball and brings it back to you.
- Ball of Yarn: it chases it about.
- Ear scratch: now and then it sits down and scratches behind an ear with a hind leg, which keeps it a little cleaner.
- Wet-dog shake: after you rinse it with a water bucket it shakes itself off, head to tail.
- Puppies stalk and pounce on each other and chase their own tails.
Guard dog
Even on Idle, a dog comes running to help when you're in a fight nearby (when you hit something or something hits you). Vanilla's "defend the owner" behaviour takes over until the fight is over. Set it to Follow to keep it at your side all the time.
Tips
- Give it a garden: a dog with grass outside an open door never needs a pee pad.
- A wet dog loves a bath: rinse with a water bucket, then use Pet Soap while it's wet.
- Making it sit with a right-click is the same as the Stay order.
