Recipe
Filling it
| Use on the trough | Servings |
|---|---|
| A hay bale | Fills it (6) |
| Farm animal food: wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, seeds, sugar, bamboo, cactus, golden carrots... | +1 |
| An apple | +1 |
| Raw cod or salmon (for polar bears) | +1 |
Anything a cow, sheep, pig, goat, horse, llama, camel, chicken, panda, sniffer or armadillo eats in vanilla goes in. Kibble doesn't. Nor do a camel husk's rabbit's foot or a zombie horse's red mushroom: give those by hand.
A full trough says it's full and takes nothing. Right-click it with an empty hand to see how many servings are left.
How pets use it
- When an animal's
Hunger drops below 40%, it looks for the nearest trough with food in it, within 16 blocks of where it is. - It walks round to the side of the trough (it doesn't climb in) and puts its head down over the rim. Camels reach their long neck right down.
- It eats one serving:
Hunger +35% and a little
Mood.
With no trough around, most of them graze on grass within 10 blocks instead. Pandas and polar bears don't graze: they need the trough, or your hand.
Only animals on Idle or Follow go and eat. The search range is the searchRange setting (16 by default).
Who uses it
These animals never eat from pet bowls.

Water Trough
Farm animals drink from it. Holds 6 servings: a water bucket fills it, a water bottle adds 2.
Food Bowl
Holds 4 servings. Fill with any kibble or a hay bale (full) or other food (1 serving each).
Tips
- Place troughs end to end for a long feeding row, so a whole herd can eat at once. Each block keeps its own servings.
- One hay bale = 6 meals. Nine wheat make a hay bale, so it's the cheapest way to fill up.
- A comparator next to the trough gives a signal by how full it is.
