Any bowl, plain or already dyed, plus a dye gives that colour; the example shows blue. Every colour works the same.

Filling it

Use on the bowlServings
Any kibble: Pet Kibble, Fish Kibble, Meaty Kibble, Seed Mix, Veggie KibbleFills it (4)
A hay baleFills it (4)
Any other food (meat, fish, bread, apples...), wheat, seeds or a carrot+1

One item is used per click. A full bowl says “The bowl is full” and takes nothing. Right-click it with an empty hand to see how many servings are left.

The bowl shows what's in it: each kibble has its own look. Anything that isn't kibble turns the contents into plain food.

How pets use it

  1. When a pet's Hunger drops below 40%, it looks for the nearest bowl with food in it, within 16 blocks of where it is.
  2. It walks up until its head is over the bowl and eats with its head down. Frogs flick their tongue in, axolotls lunge, bees sip.
  3. It eats one serving: Hunger +35% and a little Mood. Eating also fills a cat's or dog's Bladder a little.
  4. If the bowl held its favourite kibble, it gets an extra mood boost and shows little hearts.

Only pets on Idle or Follow go and eat. A pet that can't reach the bowl gives up after a few tries and doesn't look again for about a minute.

The search range is the searchRange setting (16 by default).

Who uses it

Every animal that doesn't eat from a Feed Trough:

Cats, ocelots, dogs, foxes and parrots eat only from a bowl or your hand. Rabbits also graze on grass when the bowl is empty.
